Trasholution at German Festivals
Waste challenge with social added value
As a society, we produce a lot of waste, which is often not visible in our daily life due to efficient waste collection services. At festivals, the amount of waste becomes more visible, which leads to the persistent assumption that festivals produce high amounts of litter. However, detailed waste documentation from our festivals in Germany shows that the per capita waste produced during our events does not significantly differ from the average daily waste output per person reported by the Federal Statistical Office. We regularly publish the exact amount of waste per person after evaluating our waste documentation.
Therefore, waste generation is a societal issue, but we don’t exempt our festivals from that responsibility. That is why we established a waste concept at all our open-air festivals in Germany in 2015, in order to gain a better understanding of our waste production and take targeted action. Previously, we encouraged our guests to hand in their waste for a deposit, but since 2022 we have replaced it with Trasholution.
Trasholution is our waste challenge with added social value. Separating festival waste and disposing of it correctly not only helps the environment but also supports important projects in the surrounding region.
Guests are asked to collect their waste separately using the provided bin bags and return them either to the designated recycling islands or directly to the festival’s waste collection teams. For every full bin bag handed in, we donate €1 to social projects in the festival region. If guests hand in a bin bag with sorted waste, we double the donation and €2 will go to a good cause!
In this way, we aim to link ecological responsibility with social engagement and have already achieved great success.
