Our awareness concept for german festivals
Our goal is to make all guests at our festivals feel equally welcome and safe. That’s why we’ve created a tool that offers everyone a fast and easy way to reach a safe space: “Which Way to Panama”.
Anyone who finds themselves in an uncomfortable or potentially dangerous situation can easily get help by asking the question, “Which way to Panama?”, or simply using the code word “Panama”.
Regardless of whether our guests are feeling unwell, overwhelmed, discriminated against, or threatened, Panama is our low-threshold concept for ensuring greater security for everyone.
If our guests decide to use the code phrase in front of our festival staff, such as bar crews, security personnel, or paramedics, they will immediately be brought to a safe space without any questions asked. There, our trained Panama guides will decide together with the person seeking help how to proceed.
In place since 2017 at our German festivals, Panama has been a valuable contribution to the safety and sense of community among our guests. In 2023, we further developed the project by adding dedicated awareness teams and safe spaces to all open-air festivals. The concept has also been taken up by several top-tier football teams and a wide range of public stakeholders throughout Germany.
